Summer 2004

In July, Blue Plate Special had a great time performing a benefit concert for Bodle's Opera House in Chester NY. We joined our friends Out to Lunch and Too Blue to support a great music venue.

Blue Plate Special performed at "Bluegrass between the Bridges" as part of the the Hudson River Arts Festival in Poughkeepsie, NY. The lineup included Richie Haven, Burning Spear, world famous banjo player Bill Keith, The Hunger Mountain Boys, and Too Blue. Our highlight was meeting Ted and Kip from the Hunger Mt. Boys. Dave invited them to play live on his radio show. The boys came down to "Laura's bedroom studio" and recorded a one hour special that aired October 22.

Spring 2004
Blue Plate Special performed at the Green Meadow School Family Music Festival along with Tom Chapin, Lucy Kaplanski and McMule. We even got an opportunity to perform a song with Tom Chapin.

Blue Plate Special was well recieved at the annual Hudson Valley Bluegrass Association's yearly benefit concert. Check out the review of our CD in the HVBA newsletter.

Breaking News! Dave returns to the radio as host of "On the sunny side" Friday April 2 from 12noon to 1pm. He can be heard spinning bluegrass discs on 89.1 FM and streaming on the net at WFDU.fm.

Winter 2003-4
Blue Plate Special shared the stage with 2 great national acts this winter. In January, we played with Little Feat members Paul Barrerre and Fred Tackett at the Paramus Picture Show, a new theater type music venue. We also opened for Cajun legend, C.J. Chenier at Mexicali Blues in Teaneck.

Blue Plate Special has written and recorded a theme song for Been There/Done That, a nationally syndicated radio show hosted by NPR veteran Marty Goldensohn. The debut was January 11. The show airs weekly in New York at 10pm Sunday nights, on WNYC 820AM.

“Nowhere Fast,” Blue Plate’s new CD has been released! This CD features 12 original songs in styles including Bluegrass, Swing, Cajun and Gospel. The CD is in regular rotation on WFDU-FM 89.1 in the New York market. Click here to order.

Our new CD was reviewed in the New York Post  newspaper and online on Dec. 09, 2003.
Fall 2003
Blue Plate Special has found a home at the Harp & Bard in Clifton, NJ with the help of popular Irish musician Gabriel Donahue. This well-known Northern NJ Irish pub and restaurant is a great venue for BPS. Along with a great bar, The “Harp” has many tables for a comfortable and relaxing musical evening.

While busy with local gigs including “Accordion Night” at The Cutting Room in NYC, The Harp & Bard, and Kate’s New Orleans style Couchon du Lait, the band had the good fortune to play with the legendary Les Paul at The Iridium in New York City. Blue Plate’s friend and jazz pianist extraordinaire, John Coliani, (who currently has a weekly gig playing with Les Paul every Monday) invited everyone down to catch the show. After an offer by Les Paul to come up on stage, BPS jumped right in and played two original songs.

Summer 2003
BPS is back from their European Tour. With stops in Germany and France, the band played for audiences in clubs, cabarets, market places, town squares, street corners, an Irish pub and a senior citizen center. BPS also played with a gospel choir in accordion player Thomas Seiter’s hometown church.

While in Strasbourg France, the band was hosted by the fabulous French bluegrass band “The Mart O Pickers.” Both bands played to a packed house at  France’s Channel 3 TV was there to shoot a segment highlighting the music and the story behind the two bands meeting via the web. The band hopes to reciprocate if and when the Mart O’Pickers head towards the New York Area.
